Rapala X-Rap Magnum 20 - Sailfish UV

The Rapala X-Rap Magnum 20 in Sailfish UV is a deep-diving saltwater trolling lure with a rated running depth of 20 feet. Its large diving lip takes the bait down without a separate diving device, giving anglers a way to search beneath surface activity with a defined depth option in the spread.

Key Features

  • Large diving lip creates an unassisted deep-running presentation.
  • Textured body, internal holographic foil and 3D holographic eyes form the X-Rap Magnum design.
  • Two VMC 4X Perma Steel treble hooks secured by 3X split rings.
  • Factory-tuned swimming action for trolling applications.

Specifications

  • Model: XRMAG20
  • Color: Sailfish UV
  • Body length: 5-1/2 inches
  • Weight: 1-5/8 oz
  • Rated trolling depth: 20 feet
  • Hook configuration: two size 2/0 treble hooks
  • Manufacturer maximum trolling speed: up to 13 knots

Target species: Tuna, wahoo, mahi-mahi and king mackerel.

Use this model to search mid-depth water along color changes, reef edges and offshore bait concentrations. Designed for saltwater trolling. Freshwater use is a specialized option for suitably large predators and tackle; it is not the primary application described here.

How to Fish It

  • Rig on trolling tackle capable of handling the lure’s pull and the fish you expect. Select leader strength for the conditions; consider a bite-resistant leader for toothy species.
  • Check the lure beside the boat at low speed, then let it back under control. Confirm a steady rod-tip pulse before setting the rod in its holder.
  • Troll through the chosen area with the lure swimming cleanly. The 13-knot figure is a maximum rating, not a required fishing speed; slow down or adjust speed when conditions or fish response call for it.
  • Use the 20-foot rating as a starting point. Line diameter, leader, setback, rod position, current and boat speed affect actual running depth; maintain clearance over bottom and structure.

Fishing Tips

  • Run Sailfish UV alongside a natural baitfish pattern to compare responses under the current light and water conditions.
  • Stagger lure setbacks and depths, and make broad turns to reduce crossed lines. Keep deeper diving plugs nearer the boat than shallower offerings when arranging a mixed spread.
  • If the rod-tip pulse changes or disappears, retrieve the lure and check for weeds, a fouled hook or damaged hardware before continuing.
  • After saltwater use, rinse with fresh water, dry thoroughly and inspect hook points, split rings and leader connections.
